About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen the systems that support long‑term development by delivering reliable renewable energy, restoring natural landscapes, and working alongside communities as partners.

We believe sustainability endures when communities are invested in the energy and environments that support their lives and livelihoods.

Our Leadership

We are led by Rick Lacroix, a serial climate entrepreneur with decades of experience developing and scaling renewable energy, forestry, and infrastructure projects across Asia and Africa.

Rick pioneered the use of sustainable materials in the construction of offshore helidecks for the oil and gas sector in the South China Sea, eliminating the dependency on rare hardwood trees from first-growth forests.

Our Journey

Emerald Bioenergy Launches

Secured financing and began construction of a $30m biomass plant in Eswatini, to develop a 150,000-tonne-per-year wood pellet facility by converting timber waste into pellets to power Réunion Island, avoiding nearly 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

CODE Initiative Launches

Launched a large scale reforestation programme generating carbon offsets, alongside sustainable forestry operations in the Philippines for Japanese and domestic markets.

DC Smart Grid Prototype Commissioned

Delivered a DC smart grid pilot in Palawan with government and UN partners, established Emerald Forestry Products, and built a nursery producing 25 million seedlings annually.

2019–2021
Pandemic Years

Expanded into livelihoods and clean energy, launched USAID backed programmes, won Smart Grid Project of the Year, and advanced bioenergy and large scale carbon offset initiatives.

Candlewick Green Canopy Launched

Founded a major reforestation initiative, developed clean energy transport solutions, and scaled renewable biomass crops, achieving world leading yields.

2016–2018
2003–2015
Microgrid & Clean Energy Expansion

Founded Southeast Asia’s first dedicated microgrid company, electrified island and mining communities in the Philippines with reliable clean power, and supplied sustainable biomass to reduce fossil fuel use.

Offshore Safety & Sustainable Helidecks

Developed environmentally friendly helideck systems for offshore and remote sites across Southeast Asia, partnering with Shell, Petronas and Brunei to replace virgin timber with safer, fire resistant designs.

Partnerships in Environmental Enhancement

Electric Cooperatives

In our renewable energy microgrid programs, we work with more than 40 distribution utilities in the Philippines through our established Association of Isolated Electric Cooperatives.

Government and Multilateral Agencies

We collaborate with the Philippines Department of Energy, Department of Environment & Natural Resources, the National Electrification Administration, the National Power Corporation, and the Energy Regulatory Commission, as well as multilaterals including USAID and UNDP, to shape policy, deployment models, and public-private partnerships.

Strategic Partners

Our partners have included the Private Investment Development Corporation (PIDC), InfraCo Asia, Infunde Development, the European Union, Okra Solar, Megawide Corporation, and multiple offshore multinationals across Japan, Europe, and the United States.

Corporate Structure

We operate through subsidiaries, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships that enable strong local execution while maintaining governance, financial discipline, and technical oversight.
